The Lawrence County VA Outpatient Clinic is a community-based clinic operated by the Veterans Administration in an attempt to provide veterans with primary care services within their community. Clinics such as this one allow veterans to access services such as yearly exams and prescription refills without the added difficulty or expense of traveling to larger hospitals or medical centers. The Lawrence County VA Outpatient Clinic is operated by VA Butler Healthcare which is part of the VA Healthcare’s VISN 4 network. The Lawrence County location is one of four VA outpatient clinics under the umbrella of the VA Butler Healthcare System. VA Butler Healthcare was founded in 1937 as a Tuberculosis Sanitarium, eventually being purchased by the Veterans Administration in 1948. The outpatient programs at VA Butler Healthcare generate approximately 125,000 patient visits a year, and the facility is home to a total of 126 operational beds. Today, VA Butler Healthcare provides primary care, behavioral health, specialized extended care, physical rehabilitation medicine, and residential substance abuse treatment to over 18,000 veterans in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.

Services

The Lawrence County VA Outpatient Clinic provides local veterans with primary medical care, physical exams, weight management, smoking cessation counseling, and routine laboratory services. The clinic also provides behavioral health services in the form of individual and group counseling, as well as medication management. The clinic can also refer patients to a psychiatrist in Butler without leaving their community through a secure video-conferencing program. Should veterans require additional services aside from those available at the clinic patients will likely be referred to VA Butler Healthcare or any of the facilities within the VA’s integrated health care system. VA Butler Healthcare provides veterans with extensive inpatient and outpatient services. This facility does not provide walk-in urgent care, or accept emergency patients by ambulance. However, VA Butler Healthcare can assist in coordinating a patient’s care following an emergency situation. Services available at VA Butler Healthcare include:
