VA Butler Health Care

VA Butler Health Care is a facility that operates under the VA Health Care-VISN 4, which is a network of ten VA medical centers that serves veterans in 104 counties throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio. VA Butler Health Care specifically helps to provide medical and social care to over 18,000 veterans residing in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The VA Butler Health Care facility first opened its doors in 1937 as a Tuberculosis Sanitarium, eventually serving as a soldier’s hospital during World War II, after which it was purchased by the Veterans Administration in 1948 beginning its operations as a veterans’ hospital. The Butler Health Care facility is a parent hospital that oversees four VA outpatient clinics which provide veterans more convenient access to healthcare within their community.

Butler Health Care is comprised of 60 nursing home care beds as part of their community living center, 10 compensated work therapy beds, and 56 domiciliary beds. The facility is situated on an 88-acre campus located just three miles outside of Butler, and generates approximately 125,000 visits per year.
