Sayre Community-Based Outpatient Clinic


The Sayre Community-Based Outpatient Clinic was established in 1983 in Athens Township, Sayre, Pennsylvania. The clinic operates under a larger parent facility, the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, which has been serving veterans medical needs for over 50 years. The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, as well as satellite clinics such as the Sayre location make a variety of medical services available to veterans in 18 counties in Pennsylvania and one in New York. Smaller clinics like the Sayre Community-Based Outpatient Clinic help to provide U.S. veterans with primary health care without the added expense and trouble of traveling long distances to larger facilities.

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center is part of the VA’s comprehensive health care system that delivers health care in an integrated environment supporting learning, research, and education with an emphasis on prevention and population health and service during national emergencies. The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center provides veterans with a full range of services and maintains several academic partnerships in an attempt to provide state-of-the-art care while educating future health care professionals.


The Sayre Community-Based Outpatient Clinic is a primary care clinic with services including but not limited too:

  • Mental Health

  • Social Work Services
  • Tele-Mental Health (consultations and therapy available through teleconferencing)
  • Tele-Retinal
  • Women’s Health

Should it be determined that a veteran require services outside the scope of the Sayre clinic referrals an be made to the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center or any other necessary facility within the VA’s network.

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center has an extensive list of medical services including both inpatient and outpatient care. One particular program of interest is a long-term benefits program that was voted into action by Congress. These benefits insure that qualifying veterans can receive a range of geriatric and extended care including: Home Based Primary Care, Skilled Home Care, Home Infusion, Home Hospice, Homemaker Home Health Aide (HHA), Adult Day Health Care, Palliative Care and Spinal Cord Injury programs.
