Electrical Panel Partitions
The material asbestos has been known for longevity, durability, and heat resistance. During the time asbestos was in heavy usage for electrical parts, most people didn’t consider it a dangerous product. It was considered amazing and a miracle product. For years asbestos has been in used in electrical panel partitions as an insulator.
Electrical panel partitions were in high demand during the time of the Second World War. Asbestos was used in these partitions, which simply functioned to divide wiring systems, since it would not catch fire if the system shorted out. If one part of a system did catch fire, the asbestos panels would make sure the fire was contained to that area. However, many of the people who were exposed to asbestos due to these panel partitions or other asbestos-containing items began to developing serious diseases many years later. One of these very devastating illnesses is a form of cancer known as mesothelioma.
Workers who made electrical panel partitions with asbestos and those who have worked in places containing these electrical panel partitions are at a much higher risk for illnesses and health conditions related to asbestos. The panels alone are not dangerous, but if cut or sawed into, they will release asbestos fibers into the air. It does not matter what level of exposure to asbestos-laden products a person receives. Even the smallest amount can result in mesothelioma.
It is not only the workers who made the electrical panel partitions who are at risk. Their families are also at risk. Though asbestos is strong, it is very lightweight. Asbestos fibers can be easily transported on hair, skin, and clothing. Families or people who have worked with electrical panel partitions and have mesothelioma may have legal rights to compensation. Many have received assistance and also help for medical expenses.
