Mark Krasna, MD is the Medical Director for the Cancer Institute and a thoracic surgeon, both affiliated with St. Joseph Medical Center. He is renowned for the launching of a unique cancer institute that features innovative care and treatment. He is also the leader in development of thoracic surgery, and was the first author to write a textbook on thorascopic surgery, which has instructed surgeons worldwide. As an Associate Director for the University of Maryland’s Greenebaum Cancer Center, he was the first to develop the concept of multidisciplinary care in modern cancer treatment. He supports the ideology that patient care can be bettered by bringing comprehensive care to the patient’s bedside, in lieu of them making several, unnecessary trips to various offices. In addition to his work at St. Joseph, Dr. Krasna is an advisor to Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), St. Joseph's parent organization, in the development of a national cancer service line strategy for CHI's 70 hospitals and 40 cancer centers. Dr. Krasna is the principal investigator of the National Cancer Institute’s Community Cancer Center pilot program for The St. Joseph Cancer Institute and CHI. Education and Training Dr. Krasna completed his medical school at the Sackler School of Medicine, a part of Tel Aviv University located in Tel Aviv, Israel. His internship was completed at Tel Hashomer Hospital, after which his residency was at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Categorical Surgery. Dr. Kresna is also credited with completing a fellowship, which was done at Harvard medical School, New England Deaconess Hospital in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
