Dr. Peter W. Barrett currently serves as the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital. He also serves as the Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine. Receiving his medical degree in the Caribbean at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Dr. Barrett went on to complete a residency in general surgery in New Jersey at Morristown General Hospital. He went on to complete another residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in cardiothoracic surgery. Following his two residencies, Dr. Barrett finished a fellowship at Yale in cardiopulmonary transplantation. He also received a degree from Harvard University in Healthcare Management. After becoming board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery in 1991 and 1995 respectively, Dr. Barrett began to oversee clinical instruction at the State University of New York at Syracuse. He also opened and served practices in Eastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Barrett went on to become the Assistant Clinical Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina following his time in Pennsylvania. After an abridged stay in South Carolina, he was appointed as a Forensic Consultant in California at the American Medical Forensic Specialists Inc. Before joining the Yale New Haven Hospital, Dr. Barrett also served for the Great Lakes Surgical Specialists in Michigan in surgery, thoracic surgery, aortic surgery, thorascopic surgery, and esophageal cancer surgery. He has taken interest in gastroesophageal reflux disease, Left Ventricular Assist Devices, and mechanical assist devices. Dr. Barrett is known for treating patients with multiple diseases including mesothelioma, as well as lung, squamous cell, thymomas and esophagus cancer. Dr. Barrett has been lucky enough to be published many times throughout his 22 years in the field of medicine. He has had articles published in peer reviewed journals such as “The Cardiology Journal” and The “Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia.” Reference:
