Dr. Francisco Robert-Vizcarrondo is a renowned specialist in multiple fields including internal medicine, thoracic oncology and hematology. With an experienced background in numerous fields, Dr. Vizcarrondo is known mostly for his work in treatment for malignant diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. Dr. Vizcarrondo received his MD in 1969 after attending the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency at the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Medicine in 1972 as well. Dr. Vizcarrondo’s followed that up with his first fellowship completed from 1972 through 1974 at the same institution. He went on to start a second fellowship at the University of Alabama Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1974 to 1976. Board certification was approved for Dr. Vizcarrondo in 1972 for hematology, in 1973 for internal medicine, and 1975 for medical oncology. Following completion of his fellowships, Dr. Vizcarrondo served as a professor at the University of Alabama. Today, he is a cancer specialist in both hematology and oncology at the University of Alabama Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Vizcarrondo also serves as the Director of the Mesothelioma Clinic at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. When it comes to Dr. Vizcarrondo’s clinical interests, he is focused on a number of different health aspects. They include drug development for early phases of cancer, cancer hematology and oncology, as well as lung cancer and mesothelioma. He has done major research in the field of drug development for cases of malignant mesothelioma. Dr. Vizcarrondo has been recognized numerous times throughout his career with awards such as being named to Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors in America,” as well as their awards for “Top Doctors for Cancer” in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In his 38 years of experience, Dr. Vizcarrondo has become known as someone with an extensive background in treating cancer patients and working with treatment of malignancies.
