Dr. Kelly Butnor is an assistant professor of pathology at the Vermont Cancer Center. She is also involved in clinical research and is an affiliate member of the Vermont Cancer Center. Dr. Butnor’s clinical expertise includes surgical pathology and pulmonary pathology. She is board certified in both anatomical and clinical pathology. Her research primarily revolves around testing novel immunohistochemical markers for the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer.

From 2002 until 2008, Dr. Butnor held the position of assistant professor at the University of Vermont’s Department of Pathology. In 2008, she was promoted to an associate professor of that program, a position she holds to this day. Her other professional and academic honors include the following:

Educational Background

Dr. Butnor earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology undergraduate degree in May 1993, graduating from Syracuse University, located in Syracuse, New York, summa cum laude. She then graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine, located in Durham, North Carolina, in May 1997, receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree. She undertook both her residency in pathology and her fellowship in pulmonary pathology with the Duke University Medical Center. She then came to the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 2002.
